Backup & Recovery

Server Deleted or Terminated

Discord server deleted or terminated? See what RestoreCord can recover, then rebuild in a new server and pull your verified members back into it.

If Discord deleted or terminated your server, you can't get that server back, but you can rebuild it in a new one and bring back every member who verified through RestoreCord. Your RestoreCord server, its verified members and your snapshots are kept in RestoreCord, not in Discord, so they are still there.

Go to Servers

This page is for a server that no longer exists. If the server still exists but was nuked, raided or damaged, restore it in place with Restore a Discord Server instead.

Channels, roles and messages, if you never created a snapshot

Act on the members you can reach, not the member count you had. Discord can still refuse individual members: those at Discord's server limit (100 servers, 200 with Nitro), banned from the new server, or whose authorization has expired.

If you think Discord terminated the server by mistake, the server owner can contact Discord support. RestoreCord can't appeal or reverse a Discord action.

Your RestoreCord account doesn't depend on Discord. You sign in with your username and password, Google or Apple, so you can still open the dashboard if you lost access to your Discord account.

Recover in a new server

Create the new Discord server

Create a new server in Discord with the account that should own it. Leave it empty for now: the snapshot restore builds the channels and roles.

Check your bot still works

Open Bots and check the bot linked to your RestoreCord server. If it shows Invalid Bot Token, reset the token in the Discord Developer Portal and paste the new one into Bot Token.

Go to Bots

If Discord deleted or banned the bot itself, your members' authorizations went with it and can't be moved to a new bot. You can't pull them. Set up a new bot and ask members to verify again; see My bot got deleted or banned by Discord.

Invite the bot to the new server

Use Invite Bot in the dashboard: on the bot's card on the Bots page, in the Pull Members popup or in the restore dialog on the Snapshots page. It asks for the permissions RestoreCord uses, including Create Instant Invite (needed to add members) and Manage Roles.

Then in Discord:

  • Drag the bot's role to the top of the role list, above every role it has to give.
  • Keep invites enabled in the new server. Pulls are refused while invites are disabled.

A snapshot restore also needs Administrator on the bot's own role. If it's missing, the restore dialog shows Administrator Permission Required with an Open Admin Invite button that re-invites the bot with it.

Restore your snapshot

Skip this step if you have no snapshot, and build the channels and roles you need by hand.

On Snapshots, open the snapshot you want and choose Restore. In Restore Backup:

  1. Choose Bot: your server's bot.
  2. Choose Server: the new server. Refresh the list if you just invited the bot.
  3. Messages per Channel: up to your plan's limit (50 on Free, 200 on Premium, 500 on Business, 2,000 on Enterprise).
  4. Clear server before restore: removes the default channels Discord creates in a new server. It deletes everything already in the destination, so only use it on the new, empty server.

Go to Snapshots

Restoring is available on every plan. Restored roles get new Discord IDs, so member roles come back in a separate step below. Full controls are in Restore a Snapshot.

Pull your members

On Servers, click Pull Members on the RestoreCord server that held the old server's members. In Migration:

  1. Select Server: the new server. The list shows every server your bot is in.
  2. Add roles on join: a role each pulled member gets, such as your verified role.
  3. Pull amount: leave it empty (Unlimited) to pull every eligible member.

Go to Servers

Pulling works on every plan, including Free, with no RestoreCord cooldown or member cap. Members are added one at a time, so a large pull can take hours. Follow progress on the Migrations page. See Pull Members and Before You Pull for the full checklist and eligibility rules.

Restore member roles

If your snapshot captured member roles, the Snapshots page shows a Pending Role Restore banner after the restore. Click View Details, then Restore Roles.

  • Pull members first. Discord can only give roles to members who are already in the server.
  • The saved roles expire 7 days after the snapshot restore. Members who haven't joined by then have to get their roles by hand.
  • The bot needs Manage Roles, and its role must be above every role it gives.

Details are in Restore member roles.

Link the new server and publish verification again

Your RestoreCord server is still linked to the deleted server. On the General tab, pick the new server under Discord Server. This resets Verified Role, so pick it again, then choose a Verification channel and press Save. Saving posts the verification message there. You can also run /setup in the channel instead.

Go to General › Discord Server

Only the server owner can change Discord Server. See Discord Server for the details.

Tell your community

Pulled members are added to the new server automatically. Members who couldn't be pulled won't know where you went, so post a new invite link wherever you reach your community outside Discord, such as your website or social accounts. Ask anyone who joins that way to verify, so you can pull them next time.

If you haven't been hit yet

Recovery only works with what you set up beforehand.

  • Own your bot with a dedicated account. Don't let a personal Discord account own the production bot. Use a dedicated account with 2FA on, and use the bot only for RestoreCord. See Secure Your Bot.
  • Get your members verified. Only members who verify through RestoreCord can be pulled. Keep Join Servers For User on, since members who verify while it's off can't be pulled. See How Verification Works.
  • Take snapshots. Free keeps 1 snapshot per server, Premium 5, Business 30 and Enterprise 50. Business and higher can run automated backups. Create a fresh snapshot after big changes. See Snapshots.
  • Have a way to reach people outside Discord, so members who can't be pulled can still find your new server.
