Alt Account Detection
Detect and block Discord alt accounts with RestoreCord. Learn how alt detection works, warn or block modes, minimum account age, false positives and bypasses.
Alt detection spots one person trying to verify in your server with more than one Discord account, and Minimum Account Age turns away freshly made accounts. You can watch for alts in your logs, block them outright, or both. Alt blocking is on the Firewall tab and Minimum Account Age is on the Security tab.

How alt detection works
Each time someone verifies, RestoreCord compares them with the accounts that have already verified in this server. If the new account looks like it belongs to the same person as a different account that already verified, it is flagged as a possible alt.
- Re-verifying is fine. A member who verifies again with the same Discord account is never matched against themselves.
- A match is not proof. Alt detection isn't perfect; see False positives.
For a manual approach to checking suspicious accounts, see how to check for alt accounts on Discord.
Choose how strict to be
| Setup | What happens to a possible alt | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Warn only: Block Alt Accounts off, Discord webhook set | They verify as normal. Your log channel gets an Alt Account Warning. | Premium |
| Block: Block Alt Accounts on | They can't verify and see error 990045. If a Discord webhook is set, your log channel gets an Alt Account Blocked message. | Premium |
| Minimum Account Age | Any account younger than the days you set can't verify and sees error 990035. | Enterprise |
With Block Alt Accounts off and no Discord webhook set, possible alts verify and nothing is recorded.
Start with warnings before you block. Run in warn-only mode for a week or two and read the warnings. If most matches are real alts, turn blocking on. If many are real members, stay on warnings and act on them by hand.
Turn on alt blocking
Set a Discord webhook
Add a channel webhook under Discord Webhook Logs on the Security tab, so you can see warnings and blocks. See Webhook Logs.
Watch the warnings
Leave Block Alt Accounts off for a while. Each Alt Account Warning lists the earlier accounts it matched, so you can judge whether they are the same person.
Turn on Block Alt Accounts
Open the Firewall tab and switch on Block Alt Accounts under Protections, or pick it from Add Security Rule. It takes effect straight away; there is no Save button. Its card shows ENABLED while it is on.
Turning the switch off asks you to confirm first. Members who were let in before you turned blocking on keep their verified role.
Alt detection can't catch every alt. Pair alt blocking with VPN blocking so they can't hide behind a VPN or proxy, and with Minimum Account Age to stop brand-new accounts.
Minimum account age
Minimum Account Age (Enterprise) blocks Discord accounts younger than the number of days you set. It catches throwaway accounts made to dodge a ban or join a raid, even when they aren't flagged as an alt. The age comes from the date the Discord account was created, not the date it joined your server.
Go to Security › Minimum Account Age
- Set it with the slider from 0 to 365 days. 0 turns the check off and is the default.
- Click the Security tab's Save button to apply it.
- Blocked members see error 990035: "Your account is too new. You can try again in…" with the time left. Once their account is old enough, they can verify normally.
See the Minimum Account Age reference for every detail of the setting.
What blocked members see
| Check | Error | Message | What the member can do |
|---|---|---|---|
| Block Alt Accounts | 990045 | “Alt accounts not allowed” | Nothing on their own. They need to ask your staff for a bypass. |
| Minimum Account Age | 990035 | “Your account is too new. You can try again in…” | Wait until the time shown, or ask your staff for a bypass. |
Neither member gets the verified role. Tell members in your verify channel who to contact if they are blocked by mistake.
False positives
Alt detection isn't perfect. People who live together can occasionally be flagged as alts of each other.
Minimum Account Age has its own false positive: a real person who just made their first Discord account.
Let a real member in
| Option | How long | How |
|---|---|---|
| Temporary bypass | 15 minutes to 7 days | Run /bypass grant <user> <duration> in Discord, right-click the user → Apps → RC - Bypass, or click Grant Temporary Access on their denied entry in the activity logs. |
| Permanent pass (Premium) | Until you delete the rule | Add a custom rule: if User ID is their ID, then bypass all checks. |
Both skip every firewall check, including alt blocking and Minimum Account Age. The member only needs it when they verify; once they have the verified role, they keep it after the bypass ends. See Bypasses.
Go to Firewall › Add Security Rule
An allow through firewall rule is not enough. It skips later rules and the VPN check, but alt blocking and Minimum Account Age still apply. Use bypass all checks instead.
Logs
Every alt and account-age decision can be followed in your logs.
| Where | What you see |
|---|---|
| Discord webhook logs | Alt Account Warning (let in), Alt Account Blocked (denied) or Blocked Account Age. Alt messages include Previously Verified Account(s): up to 10 earlier accounts that matched, each with its username, user ID and when it verified. |
| Firewall activity logs | Blocked (Alt) entries for alt blocks, with a Bypass button. Search by User ID to find a member. |
| Custom webhook (Enterprise) | A member.denied event with reason alt or account_age. |
To change how these messages look, assign designs to the Blocked Log Embed and Firewall Log Embed slots. See Custom log designs.
Block members of other servers
If a rival or raid server is the problem rather than individual alts, add a custom rule: if Server membership contains that server's ID, then block. It needs Business or higher, and blocked members see error 990046. See Custom rules and Protect your server from raids.
Plan requirements

| Alt Account Warning in webhook logs | Premium |

Sub-users need the Manage Firewall permission to change alt blocking. See Plans & Billing for prices and the full comparison, or the alt detection overview for a summary of the feature.
