Setup Guides

Create a Verify Message

Design your Discord verification message in Message Studio with AI edits, variables and a Verify button, then publish it to your verification channel.

The verification message is a Message Studio design assigned to your server's verify slot. You edit it in the studio and publish it from the dashboard — /setup only moves or re-posts what you already designed.

The automatic Set up verification step at the end of Servers › Add new server already generates and publishes a message for you — see Set Up Verification Channels. Use this guide when you want to rewrite it, or when your server was added without it.

Open the studio

Find the message slot

Open your server in the dashboard and scroll to the Discord Integration card. The Verification message section shows a live preview of what members currently see.

Go to Servers › Manage › Verification

Click Edit message

Message Studio opens with the current design loaded — or the built-in default if you have not customised it yet — and your server pre-selected as AI context.

The welcome, reminder and kick messages are designed the same way from the Extras tab.

Design it

Drag elements in from the palette, or describe the change you want in the AI bar at the bottom.

For example, the studio preview shows a message from your bot (such as Aurora Gatekeeper, tagged App) with an embed titled "Welcome to {server_name}" and the text "Verify to unlock the rest of the server. It takes about ten seconds.", followed by a Verify link button. Below the preview, the AI bar reads "Ask AI to change anything…" with a Send button.

  • AI edits — “make it shorter”, “add a banner image”, “match my server theme”. Limited to 10 edits per hour.
  • Server context — with a server selected, the AI can reference your real roles and channels instead of inventing them.
  • Direct editing — click any text to edit it; drag embeds, fields and buttons to reorder them.
  • Reset to default — unlinks your design and restores the built-in message. The design itself is not deleted.

Rules for the verify slot

The verify slot is stricter than other designs, because Discord has to be able to route the button.

RuleWhy
The design must contain a Verify button or a {verify_url} linkWithout it, members have nothing to click and the setup will not publish
Only link buttons plus the built-in Verify and Skip verification actionsCustom interactive buttons cannot be routed from a published verification message
The built-in Verify action publishes as a {verify_url} linkLinks work regardless of how the message was posted
Using Skip verification changes the senderMessages with a Skip button are posted by your bot

That last rule changes who members see as the sender. Messages with a Skip button are posted by your bot, so Discord shows your bot's own name and avatar. Without Skip verification, your custom name and avatar apply.

Variables

Type {variable} anywhere in the message. It is stored literally, previewed with sample values, and replaced when the message is sent. Anything unrecognised is left as-is.

VariableBecomes
{verify_url}The server's Discord authorization link
{server_name}Your server's name
{member_count}The server's member count
{username} / {user_mention}The recipient — useful in the welcome, reminder and kick slots

Publish it

FromDoes
Save Changes (Discord Integration card)Posts to the verification channel you picked. It doesn't set channel permissions
Apply this setup or Save & apply (Add new server)Applies your channel permissions and posts to the verification channel
Choose channel & send message (Add new server)Posts to the channel you choose without changing permissions
/setup (Discord)Re-posts, or moves the message to another channel. Never changes permissions

Editing a published design does not update the post in Discord. Your server page then shows unsaved changes — click Save Changes, or run /setup, to republish.

Publishing creates the replacement first and deletes the previous post afterwards, so the channel is never left without a verification message.

Test it

  • Use Test Send in the studio to DM the design to yourself. Custom name and avatar do not apply in DMs.
  • Verify with a real alternate account and confirm the expected role is added or removed.
  • Confirm unverified members can actually see the verification channel.
  • Never ask members for passwords or tokens — verification only needs Discord's OAuth screen.
