Set Up Verification Channels

When you add a server, RestoreCord can pick your verification channel, write the message and set channel permissions in one step, or you can do it yourself.

When you add a server, RestoreCord can set up verification for you. The last step of Servers › Add new server is Set up verification — RestoreCord picks the verification channel, generates the message, applies the permissions, and publishes it.

Go to Servers › Add new server

Automatic setup only runs while adding a server. For a server you have already added, pick the channel and message in the Discord Integration card and set channel permissions in Discord yourself — see Configuring it yourself.

Automatic setup

The Set up verification step appears after you pick your server and roles. You can also choose Choose channel & send message to publish your saved message without AI or permission changes, or Skip for now.

Describe your server (optional)

A one-line prompt such as “gaming community, staff channels stay private” steers the channel picks. Leave it blank and RestoreCord suggests channels based on their names and categories. Then click Generate setup preview.

Review the preview

Nothing changes yet. While the dashboard shows Preparing your setup preview..., it works through:

  1. Selecting channels... — RestoreCord suggests channels based on their names and categories
  2. Generating your verification message... — A design is written for your server

You then get the proposed verification channel, the list of channels to protect, and a preview of the generated message. Adjust the picks in the channel tree, or choose Edit prompt to change the prompt and regenerate.

Apply

Only after you click Apply this setup does RestoreCord touch Discord.

While it runs, the dashboard shows Applying verification setup... with these stages in order:

  1. Applying channel permissions... — View Channel only
  2. Publishing the verification message... — Posted to the verification channel

When it finishes you see Verification is live! with the verification channel and the number of protected channels.

The generated message is a Message Studio design. Edit it any time from the Verification message slot — the studio also owns the welcome, verified, reminder and kick messages. If you've reached your design limit, the default message is used.

If no channel is a safe fit, RestoreCord leaves the verification channel empty rather than repurposing your general or announcement channel. Pick one in the channel tree before applying.

How channels are classified

Every channel is sorted into one of three modes, plus the verification channel itself.

ModeMeaningExample channels
Verification channelWhere the verify message is posted.#verify
PublicExplicitly visible before verifying.#rules
ProtectedHidden until the member verifies.#general, #media
UnchangedPermissions left exactly as they are.#staff-chat, #mod-logs

Channels that look like staff, ticket or log channels are left unchanged. Review the preview before applying.

What RestoreCord changes

Only the View Channel permission, and only on the channels you approved. Send Messages, Read Message History and everything else are left alone.

Role modeChannel@everyoneYour role
Give role or Both (verified role)ProtectedDeny View ChannelAllow View Channel
Give role or Both (verified role)Public / verificationAllow View ChannelAllow View Channel
Remove role (unverified role)ProtectedAllow View ChannelDeny View Channel
Remove role (unverified role)Public / verificationAllow View ChannelAllow View Channel
  • If any step fails, RestoreCord puts each channel's permissions back the way they were, removes the message it posted, and shows Automatic setup failed with the reason.
  • Applying again puts back the original permissions on channels you removed from the selection.

Configuring it yourself

While adding a server, choose Configure manually instead on the Set up verification step to use the channel tree: mark one channel as the verification channel, tick the channels to protect, then Save & apply. The same permission rules above apply — protecting a category protects the channels inside it.

For a server you have already added, open the Discord Integration card, choose the Verification channel, and click Save Changes to publish the verification message there. Use Edit message under the Verification message preview to change it.

Go to Servers › Manage › Verification

The card has no channel tree and no automatic setup. Saving posts the message. It doesn't set channel permissions. Set the overwrites in Discord yourself. In Give role or Both mode, mirror this:

ChannelRoleView ChannelSend Messages
#verify@everyoneAllowDeny
#verifyVerified roleDeny (optional, hides it after verifying)Deny
Private channels@everyoneDenyDeny
Private channelsVerified roleAllowAllow

In Remove role mode, leave @everyone allowed and deny View Channel to the unverified role on private channels instead, as in the Remove role rows above.

Set permissions on the category where you can — new channels then inherit them. Keep staff categories separate from member categories so the verified role never reaches them.

Republishing with /setup

Run /setup in Discord to move or re-post the verification message without touching permissions.

  • An admin-only prompt offers the configured channel or this channel — picking the current one saves it as the new verification channel.
  • View Channel, Send Messages, Embed Links and Manage Webhooks are checked immediately before publishing.
  • /setup never changes channel permissions.
  • If unverified members cannot see the destination, it warns you and requires a separate Send anyway confirmation.
  • The replacement is saved before the old post is deleted.

Role hierarchy

Discord will not let a bot manage a role above its own. In Server Settings → Roles, drag the bot role above the verified or unverified role RestoreCord manages, then refresh the dashboard.
