Getting Started

Quickstart

Set up RestoreCord step by step: create your Discord verification bot, add your server, choose the verified role, publish the verify message and test it.

This is the shortest path from a new RestoreCord account to your first verified member. You'll create a Discord bot, connect your server, choose roles, publish the verify message and test it. Each step links to the full guide if you need more detail.

Go to Dashboard

RestoreCord always runs on your own custom bot. There is no shared bot, on any plan. Free includes 1 server and 1 custom bot, and paid plans raise those limits. See Plans & Billing.

Before you start

  • A Discord server where you can manage roles and channels.
  • A second Discord account (an alt) to own the bot. Don't create the bot on your main account.
  • A bot that does nothing except RestoreCord. Don't run other software on the same bot token.

Set up verification

Create your account

Register with a username, email address and password, or choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple. Already have an account? Log in.

A new account with no bots or servers opens the onboarding wizard automatically. Click Get Started.

Create a Discord bot

The Before You Begin step links to the Discord Developer Portal. Using your alt account, create a new application with a bot, then click I've Created My Bot.

Full walkthrough: Setup a Custom Bot. To lock the bot down, see Secure Your Bot.

Connect the bot

In Create Your Bot, fill in three fields. Each one turns green once RestoreCord confirms it.

FieldWhere to find it in the Developer Portal
Bot TokenBot → Reset Token. Copy it straight away, because Discord shows it only once.
Client SecretOAuth2 → Reset Secret
Add Redirect URLPaste https://restorecord.com/api/callback under OAuth2 → Redirects, then save

When the wizard shows Redirect URL verified, click Create Bot.

Invite the bot and pick your server

In Select Your Server, click Invite Bot to Server and add the bot to your Discord server in the popup. Select the server, then click Continue.

If the server is already registered on RestoreCord, a Server Already Registered dialog asks you to verify that you own it.

Name your verify link

The name becomes your verify link: https://restorecord.com/verify/your-server-name. It must be unique, start with a letter and be 3–99 characters long.

Choose your roles

Pick a Verification Mode:

  • Give Role gives a verified role after verification.
  • Remove Role gives an unverified role when a member joins, then removes it after verification.
  • Both does both.

Then select the role, or click Create one for me. Your bot's role must sit above this role in Discord's Server Settings → Roles, otherwise it shows as No Permission. RestoreCord creates your server once the roles are picked.

More on each mode: Create a Server.

Publish the verification message

In Create your verification message, pick the channel members will verify in, or choose Create a new channel. Describe the changes you want and AI updates the message, then click Publish Verification Message.

In the wizard you edit the message by describing changes. For full manual control later, use Message Studio: see Create a Verify Message.

The last step, Enable Features, has optional toggles and a bot status. Click Complete Setup to open the dashboard. You can change all of these later.

Hide the rest of your server

Members should only see the verification channel until they verify. The onboarding wizard posts the message but doesn't change channel permissions. Servers you add later from the dashboard get a step that can do this for you, but after onboarding, set View Channel in Discord yourself:

ChannelGive RoleRemove Role
Verification channel@everyone allowed@everyone allowed
Everything else@everyone denied, verified role allowedUnverified role denied

Set it on categories where you can, so new channels inherit it. Leave staff channels alone. With Both, use the Give Role pattern, so access to protected channels depends on the verified role. Full table: Configuring it yourself.

Test it as a member

Log in to Discord with an account that has no staff roles. Open the verification channel, click Verify, and click Authorize on Discord's screen. Then check that the verified role was added (or the unverified role removed) and the protected channels appear.

If the verify page shows “Error: <code>”, look the code up in Verification Errors. To see the whole flow from a member's side, read How Verification Works.

Already have a bot or a server?

Onboarding only opens for accounts with no bots and no servers. Add more from the dashboard instead. Adding a server there ends with a Set up verification step that can also pick your verification channel and hide the other channels for you. See Set Up Verification Channels.
